I Have Your Heart In My Hands Texting Gloves

original post date 9/8/2020

These knit texting gloves are so easy to make and easy to adjust the sizing for any size hand in your family or circle of friends. And because they are worked flat it is a very easy pattern for new knitters.

They also embellish easily. You can see here that the mitts knitted for Strawberry and Aunt Bugs have hearts duplicate stitched onto the palms. But those could just as easily be knitted into the design using intarsia.

What You Will Need

There are instructions for a variety of sizes here in the post. But, as mentioned above, changing either the width or length is simple. Just add/subtract rows and stitches accordingly.

Supplies for texting mittens knitting pattern:

  • Worsted weight yarn (1 skein of Lion Brand Basic Stitch yielded two pair of large texting gloves for me)

  • Size 8 (US) knitting needles

  • Scrap of contrasting worsted weight yarn of embellishing or adding stripes

  • Darning needle

Small Child Size

Leaving a 10 inch tail, cast on 22.

Work 3 rows of k1, p1 ribbing.

Switch to stockinette and knit 21 rows.

Switch back to k1,p1 ribbing and knit 2 rows. Bind off in pattern, leaving 10 inch tail.

If you want to add the duplicate stitch to your mitts you will find that it is much easier to do before you seam the sides. Duplicate stich chart is below.

Knit Texting Gloves Main Pattern

Sizes XS (S,M,L)

Leaving 12 inch tail, cast on 28 (32,35,42) Work 5 rows k1,p1 ribbing.

Switch to stockinette and knit 26 (30,32, 38) rows.

Knit 5 more rows of k1,p1 ribbing. Bind off in pattern, leaving 10 inch tail.

If adding duplicate stitch to gloves, it is much easier to complete the stitching before seaming the texting gloves together. The graphs for the duplicate stich hearts are below, as well as link to a video if you do not know how to duplicate stitch

Using long tail ends sew sides together leaving room for thumb.

Add Duplicate Stitch Designs If Desired.

Choose the size heart that will work best for the texting gloves you are making. Here is a video to help you learn how to complete the duplicate stitch.
