Making the 8" Ladies' Wreath Block

For each block you will need

"A" 4 light fabric

"B" 12 light fabric

"C" 12 dark fabric

Cut your pieces in the above dimensions for an 8" block

Sewing the block

If this is your first time sewing the Ladies’ Wreath block we recommend that you piece only one block the first time. You will want to familiarize yourself with how the block comes together, where the vairous seams will meet and how you might want to approach pressing your blocks.

Your squares will look smaller at this point because the half square triangles need to be pressed.

Begin by making squares from your half sqare triangles. Place one “B” and one “C” together, right sides facing. Sew along the long diagonal end, taking care not to stretch the bias edge. Repeat with reamaining “B” and “C “pieces. For each block you will end up with 12 of these units.

Press the unit while it is flat to set in your seams.

Then, lay with the darker of your two fabrics on top and gently press the seam open, exercising care not to stretch the bias seam.

Once the units have cooled off, trim the small triangle at the end of the seams, You will aften see these referred to as “ears”.

Now you will have 12 of those and 4 of the plain A squares. Lay them out in four rows as shown in the diagram. Sew each of those horizontal rows,. Press each row separately, taking care to press the seams iin a manner that will allow them to lie flat and match up. We recommend either pressing the seams to one side every other row, or pressing them open .
