Third leg: Yarn over twice, insert the hook into the center of the magic circle. Yarn over and pull up a loop. [Yarn over and pull through 2 loops] twice.
Fourth leg: Yarn over twice, insert the hook into the center of the magic circle. Yarn over and pull up a loop. [Yarn over and pull through 2 loops] twice.

Center of Flower
The center of our flower will be 8, 4 leg tc clusters. You can choose to make 8, 3 leg tc clusters if you like the look of that better.
With color A, begin by making a magic circle. Ch 4, this will bring your working yarn to the correct height. For the first cluster only this ch 4 will count as the first leg. Finish the first cluster with the remaining 3 legs as instructed above. Once you've closed the cluster you will then ch 2 stitches. (You can replace the ch 4 with a standing tc if desired)
Make a second tc cluster in the margic circle and complete as instructed above. Close the cluster and then chain 2. Repeat to make 6 more clusters ch 2 between each, this will give you 8 clusters and 8 2 ch spaces in your magic ring. After you have closed the last cluster you will still ch 2, then cut the working yarn, leaving an 8 inch tail.
Tighten your magic circle to pull the last cluster next to the beginning cluster. Thread your working yarn into a tapestry needle and join to the 4th chain of your beginning chain. Weave in the ends.

Flower Petals
First Petal Round
With the right side of the flower center facing you, join color B with a ss into the top of any cluster stitch. Ch1. Work (2 dc, ch1, 2dc) in the next ch 2 space. sc in top of next cluster, *(2dc, ch1, 2dc) in next ch 2 space* work from * around, join with a ss in original joining ss.

Second Petal Round
Ch1, Work (3dc, ch1, 3dc) in the next ch 2 space. sc in top of next cluster, * (3dc, ch1, 3dc) in next ch 2 space * work from * around, join with a ss in original joining ss.

Third Petal Round
Ch1, Work (3dc, ch1, 3dc) in the next ch 2 space. sc in top of next cluster, *(4dc, ch1, 8dc) in next ch 2 space from * around, join with a ss in original joining ss. 8 petals.

Create the foundation for the square
Turn the flower to the wrong side and ss into the first , chain 6 loosely working behind the petals sc in the next chain one space (between the petals)

Adding the Background Square
Round one
With right side of flower facing you, join the yarn for the background square with a ss to the first chain of any chain 6 loop. Ch3 (counts as first dc). Working a dc in each of the next two stitches.
Make corner
In next chain make 2 dc, ch 1. Then in next chain make 2dc. Corner made.

Create Square
Continue around, working in each ch and sc. *Work a dc in each of the next 12 chains. Make next corner* Repeat from * around until you reach the final side, work 9 dc in each of the next chains and then join with a slip stitch into the top of your beginning chain 3.

Round 2 of Square
Chain 3 (counts as first dc) dc in each of the next 4 dc, in the chain 1 space of the corner, work (2dc, ch1, 2 dc), dc in each dc to next corner. Repeat * from around. Using a tapestry needle join final dc into the top of the starting chain. Weave in ends.

Block your square
Blocking is highly recommended for this square. Use your preferred blocking method depending on your yarn and the size of your project.
If I am making a large project with many square I do like to use a granny square blocking board as shown here, but it is not necessary. For the wallhanging shown below I blocked after the squares were joined just by pinning the damp piece on an old towel and letting it dry.

Use Your Flower Squares
You can cinture to add rows to your square, changing color or stitches as desires. When I work the square as described here with size 4 worsted weight yarn and a 5mm hook my square ends up approximately 7".
